Hemant Nagrale takes charge as Commissioner of Mumbai Police

NEW DELHI: Senior Indian Police Service (IPS) officer Hemant Nagrale on Wednesday assumed charge as the new Mumbai Police commissioner, just hours after the Maharashtra government transferred Param Bir Singh as director general, Home Guards.

Addressing a press conference after assuming office, Nagrale said that he will make sure the Mumbai Police regains its glory and pride and that all officers perform their duties abiding by the law.

“At present, the Mumbai Police is undergoing turmoil due to some bad instances that have occurred. I won’t comment on the ongoing investigation (Sachin Waze). We will regain the glory and pride of Mumbai Police. We will act as per law and I will instruct all officers that they should perform their duties by the law,” the new Mumbai Police Commissioner told the media.
