NEW DELHI: Just three days after a special Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) court sent Christian Michel James, the alleged middleman accused in the AgustaWestland chopper scam, to judicial custody until 28 December, Delhi’s Patiala House Court, on Saturday, sent him to seven-day custody of the Enforcement Directorate.
While Christian Michel’s 15-day police custody ended on Wednesday, he was sent to judicial custody till 28 December.
People familiar with the development said that the ED would now seek to investigate the money trail, wherein cash worth Rs 240 crore was received by Christian Michel in his bank account, but remains unaccounted for.
The AgustaWestland case refers to a deal for 12 luxury choppers for use by the President, Prime Minister and other VIPs when the Manmohan Singh-led UPA government was in power. India is investigating charges that Christian Michel organised bribes to push a Rs 3,600-crore contract for the helicopters.
