Sanjay Srivastava takes charge as Ahmedabad police commissioner

AHMEDABAD: Sanjay Srivastava, a 1987 batch IPS officer, took charge as Ahmedabad police commissioner (CP) on Monday from Ashish Bhatia who has been elevated to the post of Gujarat DGP. On Saturday, the Gujarat government transferred 74 IPS officers.

Srivastava said containing the COVID-19 outbreak would be his top priority.”The state health department, Ahmedabad municipal corporation and other agencies are trying their best to contain the outbreak. The city police will offer full cooperation in these efforts,” Srivastava said.

The new CP said cyber crimes, which are seeing a rise amid the pandemic, and safety of women, children and senior citizens will be high on the priority list. Srivastava has earlier done stints in top positions in CID-Crime, Railways and State Crime Records Bureau.

On the other hand, Special Commissioner of Police (crime), Ahmedabad, Ajay Kumar Tomar, a 1989-batch IPS officer, has been made the police commissioner of Surat, replacing R B Brahmbhatt, who has been appointed as the police commissioner of Vadodara.

The order was issued late Saturday night, a day after Ahmedabad Police Commissioner Bhatia was appointed as the state DGP.
