NEW DELHI: In a major reshuffle, the Uttar Pradesh government appointed senior IPS officer Dhruva Kant Thakur as the new police commissioner of Lucknow, replacing Sujit Pandey.
The order for Thakur’s appointment was issued late on Tuesday night.
Meanwhile, Thakur also took charge today morning after the transfer of Sujit Pandey on Tuesday midnight.

Additional Director General (ADG) of Police Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) D K Thakur has been appointed as the police commissioner of Lucknow, while Sujit Pandey has been made the ADG, Arms Training Centre, Sitapur, the government said in a statement.
J K Goswami, who was in waiting, has been made the IG ATS, while Raj Kumar, another officer in waiting, has been made the ADG (Personnel) at UP DGP headquarters in Lucknow.
It is believed that the spurious liquor case in Banthra, Lucknow is a big reason behind the transfer. Till now there have been six deaths due to spurious liquor and about seven people are battling for life.
In this matter, the action was also taken against a few officers of the Excise Department- Inspector of the department in Lucknow, Alok Pandey was also suspended. Similarly, Excise Inspector RK Singh was also suspended in a similar case reported from Firozabad, District Excise Officer Lucknow, Sudarshan Singh, Firozabad District Officer Ram Swarth Chaudhary were also removed. While, the District Education Office of Lucknow-Firozabad has been attached to the Excise Commissioner’s Office.
Who is new commissioner of Lucknow
ATS’s ADG Thakur is a 1994 batch IPS officer. He was earlier the SSP of the capital Lucknow. Thakur was posted as the SSP and DIG of Lucknow during the reign of BSP Chief Mayawati.
He has also worked in the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). It is said that Thakur has a different identity among the police officers. When he was posted in Lucknow, he was available from 10 am to 5 pm to listen to the grievances of the people.
During his tenure of more than one and a quarter years in the capital, he did a great job on crime and law and order. He regularly sat in the office and dealt with cases pending for years.
He also prepared a proposal for 6 new police stations in the capital. PGI, Gautampalli, Jankipuram, Para Chowki, Vibhuti Khand and Indiranagar were established after getting orders from the government. Also, he started work on the lines of the police station in Anti Human Trafficking Unit.
