World will taste Koraput coffee grown by tribals

NEW DELHI: Odisha got its first brand of coffee in the name of ‘Koraput Coffee’ grown by the tribals here.

Setting up the plant will promote coffee grown in Koraput and help growers get a fair price. Koraput Coffee is an initiative of the district administration’s coffee development trust with financial assistance from Tribal Development Co-operative Corporation of Odisha Ltd (TDCCOL), Bhubaneswar with technical backup of Coffee Board, Integrated Tribal Development Agency (ITDA) and CDT Koraput.

Officials said coffee beans will be procured from tribal and non-tribal growers within the district and processed in the mini-curing unit. The unit was inaugurated by MLA and DPC chairman Raguram Podal along with invited members including Laxmipur MLA Prabhu Jani, Koraput , Pritam Padhi, MLA Potangi, Ex MLA Prafulla Pangi, Chairman, Odisha Seed corporation Iswar Chandra Panigrahi, Collector Madhusudan Mishra, Adm Devendra Pradhan, DD Coffee Board, Mr Mallikarjun, DDCD B S Kalo.

Procurement of machineries have been started. An art of Koraput cafe has already planned on the TDCCOL , Koraput where everybody can taste their own coffee.

India produces both Arabica and Robusta coffee and its coffee is respected for its quality, taste and visual splendour all over the world where Koraput coffee equally stands and carries better marketing potential in qualitative parameters .There is a good demand of Odisha coffee outside the state and in the international market also.

The unit was the visionary thought of Ms Manshi Nimbhal, IAS, TDCCOL Bhubaneswar with technical support of Ajit Kumar Rout, senior Liaison Officer from Coffee Board who demonstrated the machineries and technicalities and made untiring efforts to help farmers for betterment of their lives.
